Independent analysis
The randomized design and defined composite make this useful for a short-term technical-success evaluation. Noninferiority is specific to the chosen endpoint and margin; it is not a declaration that all outcomes or all settings are equivalent. Hospitals should examine case selection and operator experience before applying these findings.
Study sample
62 patients across four centers; 31 per group.
Measured outcomes
The authors reported meeting a prespecified 10% noninferiority margin for a composite of no conversion, warm ischemia under 30 minutes and negative margins. All procedures were completed without conversion; kidney function and complications were assessed at three months.
Limitations
Small sample, highly experienced surgeons and short follow-up. Three-month assessment cannot establish long-term cancer control.
